The Week’s Biggest Winner & Loser
Virgin Galactic (SPCE)
Virgin Galactic (SPCE) is the first stock of 2021 to get the Week’s Biggest Winner twice-in-a-row, locking in gains of +12.65% after being included in a next-gen ETF and announced plans to test its space vehicle in the coming weeks.
Yeti (YETI)
It’s hard to make profits as the maker of outdoor camping supplies in the middle of winter, and Yeti (YETI) proves it, dropping -5.13% this week to earn itself the spot of the Week’s Biggest Loser.

What is the Recovery Speculation Basket?
The Recovery Speculation Basket (“Recovery Spec”) represents stocks that will thrive if vaccines are released quickly and we return to normal but have the likelihood of collapsing if more lockdowns occur. These positions are too speculative to have their own allocation and share a single allocation.
Currently, my Recovery Spec stocks are as follows: the Airlines Exchange Traded Fund (JETS) and Carnival Cruise Lines (CCL). They are listed as a single allocation in the portfolio breakdown chart each week.
This Week’s Moves
No Moves This Week!
Despite my intentions to be more aggressive in 2021, this market is so overheated that it’s almost too hot to touch. While there are certain sectors that seem to be undervalued, the majority of the market is cooking with far too much fire, so I’m content to sit on my hands and watch.
Unfortunately, my disastrous S&P put spreads from 2020 continue to cap the Speculation in Play portfolio’s upside, particularly with such a large percentage of the portfolio in cash (66.72%!).
The down week did give me time to take another look at my Current Position Performance report card. I realized that this portfolio wasn’t calculating the returns on positions with no capital left in them the same way I calculate it for the Investments in Play portfolio, resulting in higher-than-accurate figures.
So, no worries – I didn’t suddenly lose a ton of profits in AMD, CVX, GRWG, PINS, PLUG, SPCE, TWTR, or YETI, both portfolios are now consistent in their calculation.
Until next week, have a relaxing weekend and go play outside!
