The Week’s Biggest Winner & Loser

U.S. Nat Gas (UNG)

Rumors are swirling that Russia is planning to cut off the natural gas supply to Europe this winter in order to jack up prices and punish both Europe and the United States, economically.

As a result, the U.S. Natural Gas Fund (UNG) rallied +13.32% this week on the back of this news, becoming the week’s Biggest Winner.

Danimer Sci (DNMR)

What goes up, must come down is the adage that defines beaten-up Danimer Scientific (DNMR). After being last week’s biggest winner, Danimer ended up giving up all of its gains plus more, dropping -17.87% and swinging in as this week’s Biggest Loser.

This Week’s Moves

Danimer Scientific (DNMR): Added to Position

In what might end up being a perfect case study of “good money after bad,” I added to Danimer Scientific (DNMR) on Thursday when it gave back the entire pop it saw last week and then some, triggering my next buy order which added 1.42% to my position at $1.65.

The buy lowered my per-share cost -3.51% from $8.55 to $8.25. From here, my next buy target is $1.37 – lower than Danimer’s all time low at $1.57 at a price calculated using the Fibonacci Method – and my next sell target is $4.58, quite a bit below my cost basis and just under the high it saw earlier in 2023 (it’s time to trim this monster if it gets that high again).

DNMR closed the week at $1.69, up +2.42% from where I added Thursday.

Sprott Physical Gold Trust (PHYS): Added to Position

As the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury reached highs not seen in 16 years, gold continued its selloff, triggering my next buy order in the Sprott Physical Gold Trust (PHYS) which filled on Tuesday, adding 6.00% to the position at $14.01.

The buy lowered my per-share cost -1.02% from $14.75 to $14.60. From here, my next buy target is $13.37, above a past point of support, and my next sell target is $15.80, slightly below a point of resistance PHYS has seen several times in the past.

PHYS closed the week at $14.15, up +1.00% from where I added Tuesday.

SPX Short ETF (SPXU): Profit-Taking

When the market became oversold on Tuesday, it was time to take some profits in my ProShares UltraShort SPX ETF (SPXU) position. I sold 14.74% of the position at $12.43, locking in +18.95% in gains on shares I bought for $10.45 on July 12 and lowering my per-share cost -0.50% from $12.05 to $11.99.

From here, my next buy target is $11.52, above a recent point of support, and my next sell target is $14.03, below a key point of resistance.

SPXU closed the week at $11.79, down -5.15% from where I took profits Tuesday.
