The Week’s Biggest Winner & Loser

Rivian (RIVN)

After the insane beat-down EV newcomer Rivian’s (RIVN) been receiving over the past month or so, it finally bounced this week. RIVN earned +7.07% and landed itself the Biggest Weekly Winner spot to finish out the year.

Canopy Growth Corp (CGC)

Not only did Canadian cannabis company Canopy Growth Corp (CGC) stink up the joint with a -9.25% weekly loss to become the Week’s Biggest Loser, Canopy has the special designation as the YEAR’S biggest loser, too, losing a nearly mind-boggling -64.57% in shareholder value over the course of 2021…

Year-to-Date Performance

The Speculative Basket

The Speculative Basket is made up of ten (10) positions that cumulatively share two target allocations. While I have more faith in these positions than those in my Speculation in Play portfolio (why they’re in this portfolio), I don’t want a full allocation to any of them.

The current basket members are: Amazon (AMZN), Berkshire-Hathaway (BRK.B), Coinbase (COIN), Dutch Bros (BROS), IBM (IBM), Rivian (RIVN), Roblox (RBLX), Salesforce (CRM), Skyworks Solutions (SWKS), Take Two Interactive (TTWO), and Twilio (TWLO).

This Week’s Moves

Looking Back at 2021…

The market rotation out of tech growth stocks into cyclical reopening plays combined with a couple big losers really hit the Investments in Play portfolio’s performance hard. While the portfolio did return a +7.27% gain, the S&P 500’s giant +26.89% leap dwarfed the performance of the portfolio this year.

4. Tesla [TSLA]: +49.76%
5. Apple [AAPL]: +33.82%
