The Week’s Biggest Winner & Loser

Virgin Galactic (SPCE)

Virgin Galactic (SPCE) shot for the moon this week after the company announced that it expects to begin its commercial service within the second quarter of 2023. The stock rocketed an insane +40.65% in the week, easily landing in the top spot as the Week’s Biggest Winner.

Uranium ETF (URA)

You know it’s a crazy week when even the “biggest loser” finished the week up +4.44%. The nuclear energy space, represented by the Global X Uranium ETF (URA) in this portfolio, just hasn’t found its groove, yet, but the sector still managed to finish the week decidedly in the green, so while it might be the “Biggest Loser” in the portfolio, it’s still a winner in my eyes.

This Week’s Moves

Uranium ETF (URA): Dividend Reinvestment

The Uranium ETF (URA) paid out its semiannual dividend on Tuesday. Exchange Traded Funds (ETF) do provide a great way to play sectors, however, the ever-changing body of stocks makes for unpredictable dividend yields, particularly in a sector with a large number of companies that also pay out variable dividends.

As a result, the dividend payout for the second half of 2022 in uranium was meager, to say the least. After reinvestment, the half-year dividend only lowered my per-share cost -0.23% from $17.70 to $17.66. Of course, something is better than nothing, however after last year’s epic payout, this round was definitely disappointing by comparison.
