The Week’s Biggest Winner & Loser

Uranium ETF (URA)

Thanks to a new bill supporting green energy initiatives being announced in Congress, all clean energy companies – including those in the nuclear space – saw a big pop this week. The result lifted the Uranium ETF (URA) +11.76%, earning it the spot of the Week’s Biggest Winner.

Zillow (Z)

The housing market continues to come under weakness with some of the worst sales numbers seen in DECADES coming out over the past week. Naturally, anything that’s bad for real estate is bad for Zillow (Z) and the stock got hit for a -3.67% loss which was enough to slot it in as the Week’s Biggest Loser.

This Week’s Moves

Maybe August will see some action??

Six weeks have passed since I last made a move in the Speculation in Play portfolio. That’s right – not a single move in the entire month of July with the last move made in mid-June when I added to the Airlines ETF (JETS) on a pullback.

Well, we’re not out of the summer volatility, yet, and while September and October are historically bad for the markets, the recent news this past week sent stocks into rally mode, so maybe a few of the crazy speculative names in the portfolio will see a bid soon.

… or maybe I’ll have to find something else to write about next week’s update. 😉
