The Week’s Biggest Winner & Loser

Palantir Tech (PLTR)

No one really knows what Palantir Tech (PLTR) does because of its secret government contracts, but when it blows away earnings, it really blows away earnings. PLTR locked in +14.12% in gains this week after reporting a blowout quarter, easily earning itself the Week’s Biggest Winner spot.

Grow Generation (GRWG)

The entire cannabis sector got hit on the chin this week and even picks-and-shovels play Grow Generation (GRWG) was unable to escape the carnage. In fact, high-flying GRWG may have gotten worse than its cohort members as it lost a whopping -25.63% in a single week, going deeply negative for the year and earning itself the title of the Week’s Biggest Loser.

This Week’s Moves

Grow Generation (GRWG): Added to Position

Grow Generation (GRWG) sold off nearly 20% on Thursday after disappointing on earnings. The stock became so oversold that I went ahead, held my nose, and added to the position at $35.64 (waaaayyy early, I must add…).

The buy raised my per-share cost +7.85% from $27.12 to $29.25. My next buy target is below my new per-share cost at $25.50. My next sell target is around $67.50, close to GRWG’s all-time high.

GRWG closed Friday at $31.49, down -11.64% from where I added Thursday.

Las Vegas Sands (LVS): *New Position*

Everyone knows how much I love an underdog, so when I noticed that casino operator Las Vegas Sands (LVS) is trading almost near its pandemic lows, I decided to roll the dice (pun intended) and open a position at $40.50 on Thursday.

My opening price is nearly -40% off LVS’s post-COVID highs. That’s right – not its all-time high, -39.34% off its $66.77 52-week high from the past year. The casino sector is getting positively slaughtered thanks to the Delta variant of Covid-19.

My next buy target for LVS is $38.90, slightly above a past point of support, with additional buy targets all the way down to its pandemic low of $33.30 (and even lower than that…)

LVS will be the third position in my Recovery Speculative Basket along with Carnival Cruise Lines (CCL) and the Airlines ETF (JETS) with all three sharing a single allocation in the portfolio.

LVS closed Friday at $39.96, down -1.33% from where I opened it Thursday.
